Ashley (Black, 4.5 years old and 63lbs), and her BFF Holly (Golden color, 3.5 years old and 45lbs) are a bonded pair of Goldendoodle girls who have been surrendered to GRRAND as their owner has become ill and is unable to care for them. They are such good sweet girls and are being re-homed at no fault of their own.

They are both house-trained and crate-trained, and have full run of the house when left alone. They used to sleep on the bed with their dad, but now they sleep on the same dog bed together. They are good with other dogs but unknown with cats. Holly is not a fan of fireworks or thunder.

Their new family will need to have the time to help these girls with the adjustments to their new home and offer them the exercise and direction they need as young Doodles must have.

MEDICAL FOSTER NEEDED in LVL area!

Aspen is a 2-3 year old female Great Pyrenees at about 82ish lbs who was found roaming as a stray with 3 other dogs, and come to find, Aspen had a SEVERELY broken back leg. After visiting the GRRAND vet, it was thought it had been broken for about 4 weeks or so, yet this girl kept a happy face and waggy tail. She had a 2+ hr surgery to repair the fractures with 12 pins and a heavy duty plate!! The surgeon said the fractures were at least 4 weeks old and she had worn down parts of the bone by walking on it so long. The multiple pins and the plate are holding the bone fragments in alignment while her body produces bone to fill in the gaps.

Recovery will be long and her mobility will be restricted for the coming 8-12 weeks to ensure the bone is strong again. She is scheduled to go for a check up and staple removal on Oct 22. After that date we are hopeful we can find someone who is willing to care for her thru the duration of her healing. She is in a temp foster home now, and GRRAND is actively seeking a more permanent foster home for her to recover in.

The plan is to check the bone healing at the 8 week mark and if the bones are sufficiently healed, they will do pin removal and spay. If not then they will wait up to 4 weeks longer and reassess.

Aspen is a very sweet girl. She is house trained, tolerates her 5×5 restricted area well. Goes outside on a leash only (til the pins come out). She gets along with her fosters 3 dogs, observes the cat and interacts nicely with my 8 yo grandson.

She is looking for a home that has a secure fenced yard as Great Pyrs love to roam and patrol their "space" and they do that best in a securely fenced area. 

Solara and Aurora are 1 year old, female Great Pyrenees littermates who were surrendered to GRRAND by their owners who could not care for them. They came from horribly sad conditions in very rural KY where they had been abandoned along with some chickens and goats. They were filthy, starving, very very thin, and full of matts. But our awesome grooming team trimmed them, bathed them, and now they are showing just how beautiful they are!

GRRAND kennel staff says: "Even though they've had a rough start to life, they are so sweet, gentle, and generally adorable! They seem to like other dogs, and are very calm. Solara (Solli) and Aurora (Auri) are just the sweetest pups! Now they've settled at the kennel their true personality is coming; they love attention and are very playful. They are very gentle when taking treats from your hand. Auri loves to play with other dogs; She loves wrestling with Winston, who has about 50 lbs on her! Soli is a little more laid back but still gets along with other kennel dogs. Their coat looks so much better, and they are putting weight on. They have not messed in their kennel run. They are about a year old, and just the cutest big white fluffy pups!"

They came to GRRAND flea and tick infested, malnourished, and massive matts all over their beautiful white fur coat. Despite being abandoned these are two adorable, sweet, calm dogs. They have been groomed, getting regular food, warm shelter, and they get a lot of well deserved love at the kennel.

Solara is a little less playful than Aurora and prefers to spend time with her human, but she's great with other dogs and will play when the mood takes her. Aurora loves pets too, but loves playing with other dogs. 

They are gentle, fun, and loving. They take treats gently from your hand and love to be petted. They have not messed in their run, so we are hoping they are housebroken, or at least, almost! 

We do think these girls can be split up, however, they love each other and will be equally happy getting fostered or adopted together. 

They will be looking for a family that will have the time and patience to work with them, as they have never known the good life a dog should know… living in a warm and loving house, having a warm bed to sleep on, a family who loves them and are devoted to their care and well being. These girls are very deserving and are waiting for you! They will be needing a home with a secure fenced yard, as Great Pyrenees like to hang outside and roam and patrol and they do this best in a secure environment. There are lots of similarities between Goldens and Great Pyrs, and it may be good to do some research if you are interested in meeting these girls.

ADOPTION PENDING

Bandit is a 4 year old, mid sized, male Golden Retriever looking for a home where are no other dogs or small kids… a place with not a lot of chaos. Sadly, the family has raised him since a puppy, brought a male Australian Shepard (3) and little dog (2) into the family before being surprised with twin girls 16 months ago. The dogs behavior changed negatively during her pregnancy and the two bigger dogs cannot be in the same space due to serious fighting. They say "Our dogs developed litter mate syndrome. We want to surrender him because he has a lot of anxiety and it makes us nervous with having young children."

Bandit is a beautiful, slim build Golden with a sweet disposition that is existing in a chaotic situation due to all the recent changes in their lives. Add each parent starting a new job to the daily craziness and twin babies as well. Bandit will do very well is a quieter household. No other dog is probably ideal and older children would probably be ok. He is not a jumper or chewer that we observed. Our GRRAND volunteer says  "Bandit will settle into a new environment quite easily after watching him act and react to the various stimulus during our visit. He appears to be initially “skittish or anxious” around people or situations exhibiting this same behavior. He will excell in a home devoted to him which he certainly deserves."

Bandit would do well in a quiet household with someone who can put the time and effort into him. He has very bad anxiety so lots of things scare him. An only dog household with no small children would be perfect. He is house-trained and has full run of the house while the family is away. He is crate-trained but does not have a need for that anymore.

Thingsin his life changed and it was too much for him, but with a family who has the time and patience to work with him on socialization, exercise and direction, we feel Bandit will make a great addition to a new family.

NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT NEWS…

As many of you remember from our December 15th post, we rescued Barney—a sweet 4 year old Golden Retriever—from a Good Samaritan who found him injured and shivering in their barn with moments to spare…

Barney weighed in at only 40 lbs when he arrived—severely emaciated, dangerously dehydrated, and anemic. X‑rays showed multiple fractures in his right leg and hip along with a torn CCL (ACL). He was immediately started on IV fluids, small frequent meals, pain medication, and strict rest. Amputation was recommended, but only once he’s strong enough to endure surgery and recovery.

Fast forward to five days later… Under the care of one of our best medical fosters the real Barney is emerging. He is sweet, gentle, loves attention, and is even starting to move around on his own—still wobbly, but DETERMINED! He perks up for food, seeks affection, and enjoys curling up on the sofa with his foster mom and the other dogs. TRULY A TESTAMENT TO HIS TEMPERAMENT!

HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS!

We also sought a second opinion from another veterinarian. After reviewing his X‑rays, they believe there may be a chance to save his leg. The final decision will be made during surgery; if the damage is too severe, amputation will be necessary to give him a pain‑free life.

The estimated cost for surgery, post‑op care, and rehab is estimated to be $14,000! It’s a tremendous expense for our rescue, but we are absolutely committed to giving him that chance—to replace every moment of suffering he’s endured with comfort, safety, and a future filled with love!

Meet Barney

Today we rescued this poor Golden from Pulaski County—just in time! At only 40 lbs, Barney is severely emaciated and dehydrated, and our vet believes he would not have survived the night if we hadn’t gotten to him when we did.

Barney spent over 3 hours at the vet today and his injuries are extensive:

• Broken hip socket

• Shattered femoral head

• Torn ACL

At this time, the veterinarian believes his injured leg will need to be amputated, but Barney must first gain weight and strength before he can safely undergo surgery.

What Barney needs right now:

• A medical foster

• A very calm, quiet home

• Someone who can help him rest, heal, gain strength, and support him through surgery and recovery in the coming weeks.

Despite everything he’s endured, Barney is still here—and fighting. He deserves comfort, safety, and a chance to heal.

Beckett is a super handsome 4 year old, 80ish lb Golden Retriever looking for his new forever family where he is the only dog as he is sadly aggressive towards other dogs. We understand that is significant, but other than that, he is a beautiful and great dog. He is house-trained and trustworthy indoors. We are told by his previous family: "Unfortunately, Beckett and our other male dog don’t get along. Their fights have been escalating and we’ve realized we are going to have to separate them for everyone’s wellbeing. He’s very obedient- went to training when he was younger and is an incredibly smart dog. Only issue we have is sadly, he has aggression towards his brother (who is a male Doberman) and resource guards his toys and food with him. We only use the crate when we need to separate him from his brother. He’s allowed to stay out in house and roam freely when we aren’t home. Beckett is truly the most wonderful and loyal dog and will be a fabulous only dog for someone!"

"Beckett is a sweet natured personable dog. He is gentle and sweet with adults and children and provides lots of cuddles.He is very good on a leash. He enjoys playing fetch with a ball and loves his toys. He is comfortable outside and inside and is housebroken."

We are now happy to report this awesome guy is in a foster home and they say: "Beckett is perfectly trained in the home and can roam freely. He is very chill and likes to just hangout. Loves people and adapts to people very quickly. Will let you know if he needs to go to the bathroom. He is very intelligent and emotionally intelligent. Beckett loves to snuggle and everyone that meets him falls in love. Preferably needs a large fenced yard. He loves fetch and will immediately fall in love with you if you have a tennis ball in hand!"

 Beckett needs an above ground fenced yard to keep him safe and away from other dogs, and when he is on leash, his people need to be aware and know how to manage their surroundings as to avoid any confrontations with other dogs.

Sweetface does hate the crate and will scream when she knows your coming through the door to let her out. They both love water.They are both strong, beautiful and sweet!"

All they want is attention – chasing a ball, going for walks, getting petted, going swimming – just like you'd expect from a lab!  These are a bonded, beautiful pair of labs who need to go to a home together!"

PLEA for assistance with Sweet Face's huge vet bills! PLEASE READ…

Big Boy (male-80lbs) and Sweet Face (female-75lbs) are a pair of very bonded, 1 year old, beautiful Yellow Lab siblings who are looking for their forever family at no fault of their own.

Sweet Face and Big Boy are yellow lab littermates who came to GRRAND in December of last year.  Shortly after intake, Sweet Face became very sick.  She had open sores on her skin, difficulty with her vision and a lot of difficulty with breathing. She was rushed to Metropolitan Vet Specialist where she was diagnosed with Blastomycosis.  The vets said that they had never seen a more severe case and based upon her condition, they recommended euthanasia because they didn’t feel that she would pull through and knew GRRAND would be spending thousands of dollars trying to save her.  Nevertheless, we didn’t want to make this decision in haste so we decided to give her another 24 hours or so.  24 and 48 hours later she was still alive and her condition had not deteriorated.  She was placed on the very expensive medication, Itraconazole, used to treat Blastomycosis, and was placed in an oxygen tent to receive full oxygen round the clock.  Slowly, but surely, Sweet Face, only a 10 month old puppy at the time, started to improve.  She was discharged from the hospital after a little over a week with a GRRAND bill of over $10,000.  Sweet Face was reunited with her littermate and she started to receive the greatest of care from GRRAND volunteers.  She required, and continues to require, eye drops every 6 hours due to the infection in her eyes in order to attempt to save her vision from this horrible disease.  She remained on the Itraconizole daily at cost to GRRAND of hundreds of dollars and is continuing to require follow-up vet visits with the ophthalmologist and ongoing Mirivista testing to monitor her level of disease.  GRRAND has spent between $12,000-$15,000 to save Sweet Face and we are so hoping that she will be able to fully recover from this deadly disease and have a wonderful normal life.  At this time, Sweet Face needs to remain in the Louisville area to be close to the specialists who are treating her, but she could be placed in a local foster or adoptive home.  The vets think that she is finally healthy enough to be spayed so that surgery is being scheduled soon.  Sweet Face and her littermate, Big Boy, are a very bonded pair and have been together the entire time that they have been with GRRAND, with the exception of the time of Sweet Face’s hospitalization.  Sweet Face will need to have 2 consecutive negative MiraVista tests before the vets will declare her free of the Blastomycosis.  Since this disease can become dormant in a dog who was infected and then resurface later, she will also require MiraVista tests on an annual basis for life, to assure that she remains healthy and to catch the disease quickly should it return. Bingo is a 1ish year old, male Golden Mix at about 40ish lbs looking for a new home with his BFF Marcy, as his family lost their home in the E KY flooding just recently. This is a sad story for everyone, but Bingo and Marcy's family reached out to GRRAND for help, and we will help them find a great new forever family. Now, as Bingo came in with Marcy the Doodle, and we did not think they needed to be adopted together, but we were wrong! Bingo went to a home without other dogs and didn’t do well as he MUST have Marcy! He was anxious and then started resource-guarding the mom against the dad, so sadly, he was sent back. When he returned to the kennel and was reunited with Marcy, they were both ECSTATIC to see each other and have been so happy since! Bingo is much less anxious with her, too, as he finds comfort and stability in Marcy. She is a real stable dog and is going to help Bingo and she loves him, too!

Bingo ad Marcy must go to an adult only household with no small kids. He is very nervous around kids and needs a calmer environment. We are still learning about this little guy, but we do know he will need a family that will have the time and patience to work with him and be committed to giving him the exercise and direction he needs to be a good boy. He is still young and will need plenty of supervision and activity. He does get along with other dogs, and is said to get along with cats too, but GRRAND has not cat tested him.

Marcy is a very sweet 5 year old, Goldendoodle at about 60ish lbs, who sadly has lost her home due to the E KY flooding with her BFF Bingo. Now, Marcy came in with Bingo, and we did not think they needed to be adopted together, but we were wrong! Bingo went to a home without other dogs and didn’t do well. He was anxious and then started resource-guarding the mom against the dad, so sadly, he was sent back. When he returned to the kennel and was reunited with Marcy, they were both ECSTATIC to see each other and have been so happy since! Bingo is much less anxious with her, too, as he finds comfort and stability in Marcy. She is a real stable dog and is going to help Bingo and she loves him, too!

They are needing an adult only household that is also on the calmer side. Bingo is very nervous around kids, and does not like lots of chaos. 

Anyway, she gets along with other dogs and is said to get along with cats too, but GRRAND has not cat tested her. She is crate-trained and walks on leash, but her new family will need to have the time and patience to work with her and Bingo and giving them the exercise and direction they need to be good pups.

Boone is one of the Spencer County hoarding case dogs that was rescued back in Sept 2024. He has had a rough past, and is trying to work through it, and we are happy to say, he is trying to work through it with the love and support of a foster family. As of June 2025, this is the first home Boone has been in, and they are saying: "Mr. Boone is getting increasingly more comfortable around his foster mom, however not so much around anyone else [although he has let two people pet him]. He always comes when called, loves his doggie snacks and enjoys playing with his foster family's dogs. He still has chewing issues but these continue to decrease with time and he will dig holes outside occasionally, however, if his foster mom is where he can see her, he does not do this. She continues to think that this and his chewing activities are both a result of the stress/fear he seems to feel when his human is gone or out of sight, so he needs plenty of doggie chew toys just for him! Boone is not leashed trained as his foster family is trying, but it's been challenging since he doesn’t want people around him." Boone is a work in progress, and he must to go to a home with a secure above ground fenced in yard as he is a flight risk. He also must go to a home with another stable/confident dog that can help show him that people will be good to him and love him. His confident doggie friends will also help Boone gain his own confidence and help him through his insecurities and show him the ropes. Boone loves to be rubbed and lie next to me. He is house-trained and is an extremely mild mannered boy.

As spring has brought more activity outside from people and animals he has started to bark – he has the best vision & hearing of almost any dog I have ever had – so currently trying to get that under control. 

He loves to play with my elderly beagle and has given him a new lease on life. He shakes uncontrollably when I have visitors but has started to let them touch him. He's badly damaged emotionally by his prior environment, and it's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse he and the others had been subjected to.

Boone has a lot of energy and will be happiest with a very active family. He regularly does zoomies in the yard."

His foster also says he's doing great, but still has a way to go before he'll be walking on leash, but getting healthier by the day and loving life in his foster home, but will be good for him to find his forever family and get on with his new life."

Puppy Four (aka Brooklyn) is a 7 month old female Labradoodle puppy at about 33lbs who was surrendered to GRRAND from a woman who found her and her 6 other siblings one day in her barn. 

Brooklyn is a true sweetie and a little shy and she will follow you and when you stop moving she sits elegantly and patiently awaits a treat. She has mostly gray fur, with some black highlights and some brown highlights. She is treat motivated and would love obedience training. She likes to be hugged.

Brooklyn is in a foster home and we are told: "What a puppy!  Brooklyn has been with me and her GRRAND foster brother for a week and she fit right in quickly. She has a great personality – lots of cute puppy energy but loves snuggles and would be happy if you would pet her all day.  And even better, she is fully house trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house.

Brooklyn wants to be close and follows me wherever I go. I was pleasantly surprised when I put a dog bed by my desk and she laid on it quietly while I was working (considering she’s only 8 months old). She loves to chase and wrestle with other dogs and will spend all day chasing a tennis ball too.

I crate her at night and she puts herself to bed when she’s tired. During the day, she’s contained in a play area if I leave but been steadily giving her the run of the house. I have LOTS of dog toys and she’s happy exploring different ones and has left my things alone.  My dog has taught her to shake toys and so far she hasn’t destroyed any.

Brooklyn will make a great family dog but may be too much for small children (ex. She will puppy chew on your hand or arm). Butter Lou is an 8 year old, about 50ish lb, beautiful female Golden / Labrador Retriever who has been through a lot — but you’d never know it from her sweet, shining spirit. When she first came to us, her back legs were badly injured and carefully wrapped in dressings. She’s been such a trooper through her treatments and bandage changes, and she’s making steady progress every day. Her resilience and gentle heart are an inspiration to everyone who meets her.
She’s currently healing well and just finished her antibiotics for her wounds. She’s also recovering from a touch of kennel cough, but it hasn’t slowed her down one bit — her tail still wags nonstop.
When it comes to personality, she’s as kind and loving as they come. She’s never shown an ounce of aggression — just endless sweetness. She adores people, gets along beautifully with other dogs (especially her buddy Roscoe), and is wonderfully respectful of cats — even the sassy ones! She’s also gentle with children and lights up whenever she sees them.
Her only “quirk” is that she loves being near her humans. She’s happiest when she has company — whether that’s snuggling on the bed, lounging with her dog and cat friends, or just being in the same room as someone she loves. When left alone, she may bark a bit at first, but she settles down once she knows she’s safe.
She’s fully house-trained, never destructive, and an all-around easy, affectionate companion. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of your every moment — quietly loyal, endlessly patient, and deeply loving.
This girl has been through a lot, but she’s come out shining brighter than ever. She’s ready for a forever home where she can keep healing, keep loving, and keep being the sweet soul she was always meant to be. 

She may have ongoing issues with arthritis in her ankles, so adopters may need to be aware that she could need continued care for arthritis in ankles. She's currently on monthly Librela and she seems to be getting much better with appropriate medical care.

Cain is a 7.5-year old senior boy.  He will do best in a one-person home that is low-stress and quiet, which means no children or other pets.  An experienced dog person would be best to help manage his behaviors.  Once Cain knows you, he will be your best friend.
 

Meet Carter 

Carter is a handsome Golden/Great Pyrenees/Lab mix who came to GRRAND from a hoarding situation in September 2024. While his early life didn’t include much human love, this gentle boy is showing us more of his heart every day.

Carter is very sweet and a bit shy, but he’s been warming up beautifully to our kennel volunteers. Lately, he’s started to show how happy he is to see them—following them around the play yard and quietly soaking up the attention. He also plays well with other dogs and recently stole the show during a photo session, smiling big and even posing for the camera like a pro!

Because of his limited socialization, Carter will need a home without small children and a securely fenced, above-ground yard. He is considered a flight risk and will need a family that understands his needs and can keep him safe. Patience, consistency, and kindness will be key as Carter continues to build confidence. Having another stable, confident dog in the home is especially important for him—it will help show him the ropes and reassure him that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.

Carter is a true sweetheart who just needs the right family to help him blossom. With time, love, and a canine friend by his side, this gentle soul will make a loyal and loving companion. A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. 

It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.

C.C. is looking for an adventure-loving family to devote herself to and who are devoted to her!

CC is approximately 4-5 years old and is a strong 65lbish medium to high energy Doodle. She would do best in a home with a similarly-sized playful dog (she’s fine with small dogs but has a play style that may be too rough for them), no cats, an above-ground fenced yard, and no kids under the age of 16.

Likes: Long walks on the beach (or through the woods, or along the river), playing in the water, and wrestling with another similarly-sized playful dog.

Dislikes: Overstimulating, chaotic environments (like breweries or festivals) and not getting to choose her own friends (she’s a lady! – let her have a proper 1:1 introduction rather than the feeding frenzy of a doggy daycare or dog park!).

A home in Greater Cincinnati is preferred so Alicia can work with you on CC’s transition (yes! direct access to the behavioral trainer who knows CC intimately!), but the perfect home outside of this area will be considered.

Charlie is a 7 year old, 70lb male Goldendoodle who is being surrendered to GRRAND at no fault of his own. He is looking for a home that has the time and patience to work with him on on socialization and behavior as sadly, he has basically lived his 7 years with no guidance and training. 

Charlie is soooo sweet, and gets along with other dogs (German shepherds, dachshunds, etc) and doesn't mind cats. He is crate trained and is in it when he is left alone. He is a handsome, full size Goldendoodle. Charlie has lost 20 pounds and he loves to romp and play, so he would benefit from a fenced in yard or a family committed to giving him the daily exercise he craves. He does seem to pull on leash, but our volunteer had just met him and he wanted to sniff everywhere, but some work will cure that.  According to Charlie's past family, he is a happy go lucky dog who just fits in and goes with the flow. Charlie is currently known to be a counter surfer and that is a work in progress.  Charlie has been groomed consistently his whole life and has been well cared for.

Clarice is 2 months old and is one of the three little golden/pyr puppies who recently came to GRRAND and are ready for adoption!

Cocoa is a lovely 4.5 year old Chocolate Lab at probabaly around 65ish lbs who has not been treated kindly by her past people and was helped to come to GRRAND by a concerned neighbor. She was literally used only for breeding, treated badly and kept in horrible conditions all by herself while trying to raise her puppies, but not anymore. Her people were planning to dump her somewhere as they were done with her, even though she was pregnant. GRRAND was told she was a difficult dog to deal with… but on the contrary! She had worked with a trainer some on leash walking, and that should be continued. She has had her last litter of puppies and is ready to move on with her new life!  

Our GRRAND volunteer says: "It's a joy to have time with Cocoa. Cocoa is energetic yet also loves snuggles. Cocoa is treat motivated and very polite. I walked her on a leash with a martingale collar this morning. Cocoa would like sniff time, please, at first, and then she'll get more serious about walking. Cocoa has dog friends at our kennel but she may be dog selective."

Cocoa is a COUCH POTATO! She comes up for pets and stares at you with her beautiful, soulful eyes is if to say I’m finally okay and can relax. Her tail is constantly wagging and she gets so excited when you sit beside her and rub her big belly. She has not had one accident in the house and likes to take walks several times a day so she can enjoy the squirrels and deer in the neighborhood. This sweet momma is going to make someone a loving and loyal forever friend!" Our GRRAND volunteer says: "Oh, Miss Cocoa. What a great lab. Mature, wise, well behaved. Enjoys a walk and good sniffs. Will do stomps with the tush scritchies. Enjoys independence but will check in with you."

She is house-trained and has full run of the house and sleeps in her dog bed in the bedroom.

Cooper is a 5 year old, about 45ish lb, male Golden mix looking for a home where he is the only dog. He is new to GRRAND so we are still learning about him, but our GRRAND volunteer says this about Cooper: "Cooper is one amazing dog. He is athletic (very fast), snuggly, and eager to please. Cooper is a medium sized Golden mix with a fabulous, flowing, fluffy tail. Cooper enjoys the great outdoors, yet is also happy to be inside with his people. This handsome boy is one gem of a dog!"

Cooper does not get along with other dogs and will need a secure above ground fenced in yard. His past family who had him for 2 years have told GRRAND "We think Cooper has some separation anxiety as we were told it was likely that his old owners moved away and left him behind. We have had some challenges like him getting into the trash, taking food from the table, tearing up underwear, etc. I know that Cooper will be a successful pet with the right family who has time to put into training him and who are home more than not. I hate that we have to take the step to re-home him but we just aren't able to give him what he needs during this season of our lives. We fully expect Cooper to be a great companion for the right family. He is great with kids, really sweet, calm, playful, and has a lot of potential. With some training and the right home, he will be a great pet and thishas been a hard decision for us."

Cooper's new family will need to have the time and patience to work with him and give him the exercise and direction he needs to be a good boy. They will keep things off the floor and counters that he could be tempted to get into and eat. This boy is crate-trained and house-broken and with the dedication from his family, Cooper will make a great family companion! Cooper had free range of our home while we slept (also slept in our rooms/beds on occasion) and did fine with this. Cooper does great in the car (no vomiting or jumping around), but should not be left in the car by himself.

Cyclone is an 8 year old, female Labrador mix weighing about 45lbs. She is looking for a home where she will be the only dog and get all of the attention she can handle. 

She is a very smart girl and knows lots of commands and one would think she knows the human language with the words she has learned! Her release word after being told to wait is "tractor pull", when she is to go to her crate, she is told "in your house", and "cookie" when she gets in her crate. She sleeps on the bed at night and is house-trained and crate-trained. She is quite the lap dog too, and when she gets restless, she is told to "settle". This pretty girl does get freaked during storms, and she finds her space to go for comfort, and is there until she is ready to come out. 

We are happy to report she is in a foster home and they say:

Cyclone is a sweetheart who’s happiest in a calm home with her special person. The world can be a little scary for her (cars, busy places, loud noises), but when she’s home? She’s all cuddles, zoomies, and relaxed. She can be leary of strangers in the beginning, but once accustomed to you, she is very loving, but its best not to force it. She is a very independent girl and does things on her time. There is no knowledge about cats, other animals or children, so a home where she is Queen of the palace is best for Cyclone. 

She is looking for a chill home to live out her best years as the only dog with her people.

Daisy #7327 is a 2 year old, 80ish lb, female English Creme Golden Retriever who is boig rehomed due to a death in her family, and the other family dogs are not fans of Daisy. We are told:

"Daisy joined the family in July 2025 when her owner (family relative) passed away. Daisy is a good dog. Friendly. She enjoys other dogs and is playful. The reason we are having to rehome her is because our two senior Aussies are not getting along with her and have become food aggressive with Daisy. I am worried they will hurt her. She is a sweetheart. I would love to keep her but my two senior Aussies are 10 And 11 years old. Daisy will have a better chance at finding a good home with her demeanor and age than the Aussies will."

She is said to have lived with cats (GRRAND did not cat test her) and does get along with other dogs. 

Daisy is going to need a family that has the time and patience to work with her on living the good life of an inside dog. She will need exercise and direction and will make a great family companion with time.

Daisy is a small Golden or Goldendoodle at only 30lbs.  She was likely dumped as a puppy over 2 yrs ago and has spent her entire life struggling to survive on her own.  She has wandered the countryside of Pulaski County, Ky for over 2 yrs, being observed by residents in the area, but never able to be caught.  People put food out for her but they knew if they notified authorities about her, she would be picked up and euthanized because of her terrible condition.  Residents said that over the years, she had several litters of puppies, but they don’t know what happened to the pups. 

Her situation was brought to the attention of GRRAND’s wonderful friend and trapper in the Pulaski County area, Rhonda Wilson. Rhonda wanted to help her, but couldn’t keep Daisy herself so she didn’t want to trap her without somewhere for her to go.  Rhonda appealed to us because she thinks so highly of GRRAND and the wonderful homes we have found for other dogs she has rescued.  Daisy’s information was shared with a few GRRAND volunteers who offered to take her if Rhonda could trap her.  Well… within a couple of days, Rhonda was able to catch Daisy!  So many folks who had worried about this little pup were so grateful! 

Rhonda has taken her to the vet and found that Daisy doesn’t have mange, as suspected, but her hair loss is due to severe flea infestation and a secondary bacterial infection.  She also has a tick borne disease that she is being treated for.  Daisy is on antibiotics for her skin and the tick disease and is currently safe in an outdoor 10X10 pen with straw and a dog house at Rhonda’s kennel.  She will be getting regular food and sulfur baths 3 times a week for a couple of weeks with Rhonda and will then be ready to transfer to Louisville to a special GRRAND foster home.  We’ve already found the most perfect, loving foster home for her where she will start to learn that life and people can be good and not cruel.  She has so much to learn and so much health to regain.  It will be wonderful to see her with a full coat of hair before long and in a loving indoor home.

Dean is a 2 year old, 85ish lb, very handsome male St Bernard/Collie mix, and these 2 are looking for a home where they can stay together. Sadly, they were surrendered due to a divorce situation and their people had too many dogs to handle and these 2 came to GRRAND.

Both Dean and Marlo are cat friendly (very as they lived with many cats) and get along with other dogs. They are both crate-trained and house-trained and have full run of the house when their people were not home. 

Dean is pleasant and calm, but still unsure of why his surroundings have changed. He loves to play and run around in the yard. Dean is affectionate and treat motivated and he is not as timid nor anxious as Marlo is right now and she finds confidence in having him around.

Marlo is a bit anxious as she is also unsure of what is happening and has a lot of energy and would be great in a home with someone who can spend a lot of time with her, and give her plenty of the exercise outlets for her energy level. She loves toys and is always carrying at least one in her mouth at all times.

They are house-trained and have full roam of the house when left alone and they also get along with other dogs. These girls have been together since Dixie was born and they are BFF's, so need to stay together. We are told: "

Dolly is a mother by nature and wants to lick up and take care of all dogs that come into the house. Her favorite place to be is outside, whereas Dixie loves to be inside. They are both people and dog friendly and I have had a cat and they both were okay with the cat. Dolly has longer hair and has more pyrenees, whereas her daughter Dixie has shorter hair and looks more like a lab."

Dom is a 2 year old, 80ish lb, male Golden Retriever who was found as a stray and a shelter called GRRAND for help. 

He is very new to GRRAND, so we are still learning about him, but the little we do know so far is "He is very sweet, and is not a fan of his kennel. He's a tall but skinny boy and he's been very sweet to other dogs through the fence. He loves to be petted and will lay his huge head on your shoulder!" He's badly matted but the grooming team is going to work on him."

UPDATE on Dove 6-7-2025:

Dove is a 16 month old, 35ish lb, Chocolate Lab who was "used" as an Amish breeder dog that GRRAND took in, in 2024.  When they were "finished" with her, she was placed with a young woman who was told by the breeder that she was a little timid, but would come around in a few days.  As we know with unsocialized breeder dogs, that’s NOT the way it works! 

We've had a trainer working with Dove and she's now walking better on a leash – inside the kennel boundaries. She will probably never be the dog you take for walks as Dove will be happiest in a very calm, (no kids or chaos) patient, and emotionally secure home with a secure above ground fenced yard (she will be a big flight risk) and another confident/stable dog to show her how to trust people and help build her own confidence. Her people will need to be experienced and committed to giving her the time, and having the patience she will need to go through her adjustments. Dove is most comfortable around other confident dogs. She is making slow but sure progress thanks to the hard work and determination of the GRRAND kennel staff. The work is not done, but the signs are there she will be ok!

From her intake 2024 "A young lady surrendered Dove to GRRAND almost six months ago. She had been deceived by an Amish breeder, claiming Dove was 'shy', and assuring the young lady she was getting an exceptional deal and that Dove would quickly come around. 

It turned out Dove had almost completely shut down, so overwhelmed with fear of people that all she wanted to do was escape. It's heartbreaking how slow progress has been, but the good news is, there is progress.

She has such fear in her eyes. She will poop and pee if a stranger approaches her in her kennel. She runs in the play yard with several other friendly dogs, but rarely interacts with any of them. She will not come up to a volunteer, even for a treat. We were told by a trainer that many other rescues would have euthanized a dog that was 'so broken'.

But that's not GRRAND. On the improvement side, we now have her on a long leash following the trainers around the play yard. People she's very familiar with can sit in her run, pet her, and leave treats at her feet.. She understands when it's time to come in from the play yard, and will run to her kennel on command. She now has a roommate (Ivy), and we're seeing them snuggle next to each other. Dove has never shown any aggression to animals or people. 

We are still a long way from being able to send Dove home and progress is slow, but it's there, and one day in the not too distant future we look forward to seeing that twinkle in her eye that all dogs get when they realize they are safe and loved. Please keep Dove in your thoughts and follow her progress." 

She is going to need TIME… LOTS OF TIME! And PATIENCE… LOTS OF PATIENCE. Dogs like Dove who have never known love and affection from people, have to work through everything on their own time… not ours. Fred (male) and Ethel (female) are a bonded pair of about 7 month old Great Pyrenees pups that were found dumped in a ditch by a good Samaritan. She brought them to her house to clean them up, and had them for 3 weeks trying to find their home, with no one claiming them. She realized she could not keep them and called GRRAND for help as her yard is way too small for 2 big pups like them. 

These 2 have lived outside and are ready to learn what living in a warm and loving home with lots of TLC and a soft bed and food are all about. We are learning about them so are not sure of their potty training habits just yet, but we will update. 

The Great Pyrenees love to hang out, roam and patrol their yard, and they do that best in a secure area. They are looking for a secure above ground fenced yard and a family that loves to understand their breed. They have so many similiarities to Goldens, but we suggest you research them to understand how they are different too.

These 2 have lived outside and are ready to learn what living in a warm and loving home with lots of TLC and a soft bed and food are all about. We are learning about them so are not sure of their potty training habits just yet, but we will update. 

The Great Pyrenees love to hang out, roam and patrol their yard, and they do that best in a secure area. They are looking for a secure above ground fenced yard and a family that loves to understand their breed. They have so many similiarities to Goldens, but we suggest you research them to understand how they are different too.

Freddie is a 1.5 year old, about 60ish lb, male Great Pyr/Golden mix. He was surrendered to GRRAND by his owner due to littermate syndrome with his sibling. We are told: "I rescued two puppies from a horrible situation. I planned to keep them both and I’ve had them for about 6 months now, but they have now developed litter mate syndrome and are constantly fighting. I’m rehoming Freddie for their safety. He can be fearful of strangers but not in an aggressive way and it takes some time for him to warm up to new people. I believe he was previously abused before I rescued him. He has always got along with my other dogs, my cats, my chickens and family’s dogs that visit our house often. He has only had any kind of aggressive issues with his littermate that I have. He does know some basic commands and has a pretty good recall with me. He has only ever tried to escape the fence out of fear on the 4th of July and he should not have been outside anyway, but he hates fireworks. He has a very sweet & calm demeanor and he is a lover and gives lots of kisses. He can walk on a leash but not well. It breaks my heart to rehome him but it is for the best for his safety and his littermate’s."

He has been at the GRRAND kennel and this is what our kennel staff says:

"Freddie arrived at our Louisville kennel on 10/24. So far he's doing well, though clearly nervous of all his new surroundings. He is a beautiful Golden/Grt Pyr mix. He is taking treats from the volunteers, and is very calm and gentle. He's not comfortable with us petting him yet, but that trust is getting close!

Freddie is going to make  a wonderful furry family member. He will need a secure above ground fenced yard, and a dog savvy, patient owner who is committed to helping Freddie with his adjustments to his new home. He was mostly an outside dog, so his new family will need to have the time and patience to work with him and give him all of the warm and loving comforts of being an inside dog… a warm bed, toys, a family who loves him so much and all the things dogs are meant to have.

We are told he is good with children, but we believe no small kids in his new home as he is a flight risk, at least until he is comfortable and settled."

"Gigi is a six year old female Italian Maremma Sheepdog weighing about 105ish lbs. The Maremma Sheepdog is a Guardian Dog, and we advise you should research/Google this breed before applying to better understand Gigi. Gigi looks like a beautiful Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees mix, but her former owner believes she is this true Italian breed. Is there such a thing as a perfect dog?  Probably not, but one that comes very close is Gigi and she is looking for her new forever family as her person has been moved to assisted living and can no longer take care of Gigi.

Our GRRAND volunteer who helped with bringing Gigi in says: "There are many wonderful things to be shared in this bio, but one of special note is Gigi does not shed.  I know, hard to believe, right?  I spent three hours with her this morning transporting her, walking her, snuggling with her in my all black outfit, and there was literally not a dog hair on me.  Gigi's former owner had told me that she does not shed and now I believe it.  Gigi has been well cared for her entire life.  Gigi is spayed, fully vetted, and is in great health. Gigi has lost 20 pounds in the past four months and will continue to lose a few more until she reaches a healthy weight for her breed. Gigi worked with a well known Lexington dog trainer for years to ensure her wonderful behavior and to keep her busy (Gigi is very curious, observant, and bright).  Gigi does not jump up on people and she walks well on a leash.  Gigi does not seem interested in other dogs and cats…and, when in a living room with a domestic parrot on the floor, Gigi paid no attention to the parrot.  Gigi is careful about the dog friends she chooses.  She warms up to humans very quickly and will be a very good friend to you.  Gigi has not been trained to use a crate nor has she ever used one as, according to her former owner, she can be trusted to have free roam of a a home.  She sleeps on her bed in the bedroom at night. Gigi self entertains and is not destructive with her toys.  She loves to care for her stuffies and to enjoy an enticing chew toy ever once in a while.  Gigi rode very well in the back area of my SUV and, according to her former owner, loves car rides.  Is Gigi the perfect dog?  Pretty close for sure!

Her past owers say: "Gigi has been unbelievable for my mom. My dad passed away three years ago and Gigi has been patient, loyal, and loving. She is a clown and loves to please. She is smart and likes structure and she loves car rides. She can be a little shy with meeting new people and dogs and is very dog selective."

Hamilton was taken in by GRRAND in 2024 from the Spencer County hoarding situation. There are no records of his age, but we estimate he's about 4 years old. When he first came to GRRAND, he was terrified of people, malnourished, and had papillomas (warts) on his face. This sweet boy has come a long way since then!

Now, he lets volunteers love on him and will even push up next to you for pets and treats. He's never shown any aggression to people or other dogs, and we suspect he might get along with cats, too. He loves to play with other dogs in the play yard and always does his "business" outside, never in his kennel.

Our volunteers are working with Hamilton on leash training, but he has a long way to go. Initially, he'll have to be a dog that stays in the home and yard. We do believe with time, love, and consistent training, he'll be able to go for walks outside the home.

Hamilton is considered a flight risk for now. He will need an above ground and securely fenced yard. He cannot go to a home with small children or anyone who may inadvertently leave a door open. We believe he'll be less of a flight risk once he's comfortable in his new home and with his new family.

Hamilton needs someone with lots of patience who will be committed to helping him grow and work through his insecurities. We think he will do best in a home with another stable dog who can teach him how to be a family pet. Could you be the right home for Hamilton? This sweet boy will reward you handsomely.

Hi! My name is Harper, and I'm a pure Golden girl, nearly 3 years old. I'm fairly new to GRRAND, but I'm settling in nicely! Everyone loves me and I love to be cuddled and hugged! 

My family gave me to GRRAND as I have a little issue with my bladder. I was sad, but the GRRAND people are so nice, and they are helping me with my little issue. Still, I'd rather be in a nice warm home with my own family!

Looking for a sweet Golden that won't swipe everything from your coffee table? Harper is your girl, as she has no tail to do so!

Harper is a 3 year old, medium sized at about 60lbs (or so), female Golden Retriever who had some trauma in her past as a puppy and is being surrendered as the people who had her can't care for her anymore. She has been surrendered because she is incontinent…  She had trauma to her tail when she was a puppy which caused nerve damage and incontinence, and her tail had been amputated. GRRAND is working with her and vets to see what can be done to help her, so we will update as we learn more. Her former owners say: "We have done all that we could do for her. We do not have the time and attention that she really seeks and needs. We have developed some things in our lives and have some things facing us soon that we are needing to find her a new home urgently. She is incontinent as she suffered from a tail evulsion when she was young which caused her to have some nerve damage causing the incontinence issue. Vet said she does have a little muscle tone it is isn't completely gone, she does squat somewhat to pee at times but her bowels she doesn't as well. We did surgery to remove her tail since it was dead as recommended by our vet. She is very sweet and just wants to be loved on. She would do well I feel in a home where someone could give her more attention and possibly with another companion". She is good with other dogs and has lived with 3 other Goldens, including a littermate.

She has spent most of her time outdoors, and we know she will be so happy to finally get to know what living full time in a warm home, with a soft bed and non-stop TLC is all about!

Jacob is a male, 45ish lb, medium sized, very handsome Golden Retriever being surrendered by his family as they have a growing family and do not have time to take appropiate care of Jacob, so feel it in his best interest to be re-homed where he can get the love and attention he needs and deserves.

Jacob is brand new to GRRAND, so we are still learning about him, but we know he is very sweet, rides well in the car, is very friendly with everyone, and does not guard food or toys. Jacob came from a home with kids under 5 and is house-trained. He is looking for a home with a family who will have the time and patience to help him through his adjustments to a new home and can give him lots of love and TLC. He enjoys roaming in a fenced in area and likes to play ball and romp and play in the field.

Jazmine is a 5 year old, about 70ish lb, female Yellow Lab mix looking for her forever family as her person has medical issues that have made it hard to care for Jazmine, and they had to make the difficult decision to re-home her.

We know she is crate-trained, but sleeps on a doggie bed at night, and house-trained with free roam of the house when left alone. She gets along well with other dogs and needs some leash training, but this petite girl is so very sweet and happy and who can resist a waggy happy dog tail? Jazzman is a 2ish year old, 40lb, Great Pyrenees/Lab mix looking for a family that has a secure above ground fenced yard (as she is considered a flight risk, and needs a safe space to go outside) and who is going to be committed to having the time and patience to help her through her insecurities and fears. Jazzman was surrendered to GRRAND in not good health, and very unsocialized. We have a new update from Aug 25:

Jazzy (Jazzman) has been in the GRRAND program for 14 months and she's a little over 2 years old, so she's been in our kennel over half her life. Three months ago she moved to the GCS location where we have volunteers skilled in working with shy, unsocialized dogs.

Jazzman is the sweetest, happiest girl once she gets to know you! She adores being outside with her ball and she also LOVES having her butt scratched. Jazzy has thrived in her new environment and has come such a long way. She happily takes treats from the team, and runs to her favorite people to be petted. She's great around other dogs and is out with seven other dogs in a play yard, daily. She would benefit from another confident and stable dog in her new home to help her with her insecurities and fears and to help show her the ropes. 

We often have Jazzy in the office where she'll just follow you around, looking for love! She will walk on a slip leash within the kennel grounds, but we're still working on getting her comfortable to go for walks outside the kennel. 

She is also still a bit wary if you go to pet her directly on top of her head – we assume she was mistreated, but she's getting more trusting.

We really hope there's a loving foster home with a secure fenced yard that can take Jazzy in to help her gain even more confidence and be prepared for her forever home… or ARE YOU the forever family she needs?

Her new family will need to understand her anxieties and fears will take time to diminish, and compassion and dedication to helping her grow and learn what love and direction are about, will be the most rewarding thing for all involved.

Meet Kenton 

Kenton is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this handsome boy has made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. At just 3 years old and around 50 pounds, Kenton is a beautiful Lab/Golden mix with a gentle soul.

Kenton is super sweet and enjoys playing with other dogs. Thanks to the dedication of the kennel team, he has come a long way and is now ready to take the next big step—finding his forever home.

Because Kenton has never been on a leash and can be a bit fearful of people at first, he will need a home with a securely fenced, above-ground yard where he can safely explore and gain confidence. A home with another confident, stable dog would be ideal, as a canine companion will help Kenton continue learning that the world (and people!) are kind and safe.

Kenton is looking for a patient, loving family who will give him the time, understanding, and affection he deserves. In return, he’ll reward you with quiet loyalty, sweet companionship, and plenty of tail wags once he feels secure.

A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. 

It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.

Laurel was one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND last year in 2024. She is a Lab/Golden mix and about 5 years old. 

IMPORTANT CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM LAUREL: "My name is Laurel. I'm a sweet 6-year-old mixed breed dog with only one eye, but everyone says I'm as cute as can be! I've been with GRRAND since September 2024. GRRAND rescued me, along with lots of my brothers and sisters, from an awful hoarding situation. Since they took me in, I've experienced love, warmth, and regular meals. I've learned to trust the volunteers and will now take treats and let them pet me. I've even learned to walk on a leash and explore the grounds outside the kennel. I'm ready to be in a loving home and receive the attention I deserve. Please make my holiday dreams come true and give me a loving foster or adoptive home!"

The kennel team is so proud of sweet Laurel. She came to GRRAND last September from a bad hoarding situation. Laurel was one of many dogs left outside to fend for themselves. She had an eye infection, which resulted in the loss of her left eye, was tick and flea infested, and suffered from severe mange and malnutrition. Understandably, when Laurel came to us, she didn’t have any trust in people.

She’s come a long way since then! Laurel loves all other dogs (and we think cats, too). Since being at our Louisville kennel, she’s become “boss” of the play yard! She loves to play but makes sure all the other dogs behave. If they get too rambunctious, she’ll let them know.

We are slowly gaining Laurel’s trust. She’s been taking treats from our hands for a while. A month ago, we started working with her on a slip leash. She’ll now follow us around the kennel on her slip leash and let us pet her without cowering. She’s actually starting to enjoy it and is coming up to her main handlers in the play yard to be petted.

Laurel still has a way to go before she’s completely comfortable with people. She’ll need a very safe, secure, and patient home to help her progress. However, underneath that shy and fearful exterior is a sweet puppy longing for love, kindness, and attention. She will need a secure fenced in yard as she is still considered a flight risk, and no small children.

Lucy is a 7 year old, 74ish lb, female Golden Retriever who was surrendered to GRRAND after her owner was finished breeding her. She is a very sweet, yet timid girl who is looking for a quiet, non-chaotic home, with another stable dog to help with her insecurities and help to build her confidence. Lucy is also needing a home with a secure above ground fenced yard as she is very afraid of the leash, so a secure place for her to go out and sniff and potty is a must. One more thing on Lucy's wish list, is if she was adopted to a family where her people were home more often than not, so they can assist her with all of the adjustments to home living. Luna is a 7 year old, 90ish lb, female Great Pyrenees looking for her chance at happiness. She was literally saved from euthanasia by GRRAND and her temporary foster home. This is only until the 1st of the year and we desperately need a foster or forever home for this sweet girl. She had been in the shelter and they reached out to GRRAND as they had no room. 

We are learning about Luna, but we do know that she will need a home with a fenced in yard as the Great Pyrs love to roam and patrol, and they do this best in a secure fenced in area. She is VERY sweet and geeze, look at her face… She is looking for love!

Maggie is a 6 month old, 50ish lb, female Golden/Lab mix looking for her forever familiy that has the time and patience to work with her on obedience training and can give her the exercise and direction she needs as a youg puppy. Sadly her owners are re-homing her as Maggie is a bit too much for them and they are unable to manage her the way she needs to be managed. A home with a fenced in yard for her to run and play and no kids under 12 is best, as she has no idea of her own strength.

Maggie is house-trained and crate-trained and does stay in her crate when her people are away. Maggie is a very friendly, very active, healthy, well cared for, well loved dog. She is very playful but as a young pup, can play with a lot of force and speed. As a typical puppy, she is in non-stop motion and needs to be kept busy. She does jump on people and can mouthy with hands and arms, and hits with her paw to demand attention. She needs training and in short, she has usual puppy behaviors but they are dialed up to 10!

She has not had much exposure with other dogs, so her new owners will need to be committed to socialization and training.

We are very happy to report that Marion, one of our rural county rescue dogs, that came from an awful hoarding situation, gave birth to 5 healthy puppies and they all have found their forever families and now it is Marion's turn to find her forever family! Marion is about 55lbs, and she is believed to be a Golden/Lab mix. She will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as she is considered a flight risk due to lack of socialization and human love. She will need a family with the time and patience to work with her through any insecurities she may have. 

We are happy to report she is in a foster home and this is what they have to say:

"Since coming to live with us at the beginning of December, sweet Marion has made wonderful progress! She's gone from not wanting to go outside the first three days, to wanting to stay outside for longer periods of time. She was unsure of our two Goldens when she first arrived, but now they get along just fine. She does bark at our neighbor dogs along the fence but, when walking, she hasn't been reactive to dogs we meet along the way, and she walks really well on leash. She's been to visit some human friends while on our walks and is quite a polite lady.
She understands what treats are now and takes them gently from your hands – she likes string cheese, hot dogs, little Smart Bones and Smart Sticks. She will now come and stand with our Goldens to receive treats. There are no issues sharing toys with our dogs, but she prefers soft toys. She has "destuffed" several and likes to chew on the left over skin. She is still learning the difference between toys and household items. She also enjoys chewing on peanut butter filled bones.

Our porch/mudroom and her bed are her safe places. She didn't leave that room for weeks after coming to live with us, but now she is more brave and curious – she ventures out into our kitchen and living room often. Her biggest issue is with hardwood floors – she doesn't want to walk on them. We moved runners from our hallway to make a path to our front door and living room. She LOVES to look out our back and front doors and bark at anything that walks by. As you can see from the pictures, she is learning to be a seasoned Couch Potato!

She now runs out into the backyard with our girls and loves exploring and watching over our backyard. Now that the weather is warmer, she seems to want to stay out for longer periods of time.

She is house trained – never had an accident since she arrived.  We do not crate her or limit where she can go when we leave for short periods of time. At first, she wasn't a fan of her crate, but she now sleeps in it every night. When we move her bed to the crate each night, she knows it's time for bed. 

Marion is the sweetest girl!! She loves to be petted – especially when she's sitting or laying down. She still shys away if you try to pet her while standing up and she is soooo close to moving in to us to be petted.

 We are currently a two-adult-only household, so she is unsure about new people and will bark at them in the house. We haven't had any young children around other than when she first arrived and was still skittish about everything, so still not sure about young children at this time. She is still skittish about new and different sounds, so young children might take her a while to warm up to. She doesn't like seeing our neighbor's cat walk across the back fence, so we are thinking she will not be a cat-friendly dog, but it isn't a sure thing.

She will definitely need someone with lots of time and patience, as I believe she will need to establish routines to feel safe in a new place. She has lots of love to give and loves getting love!!!!!"

Theodore is a 6ish year old Golden/Great Pyr mix who was found as a stray at large, and after hold time was up, GRRAND took him and another dog in. Both in very bad shape, and the other sadly didn't make it. 

Theodore is in a temporary foster home and is doing just great! He is blind in one eye with only partial vision in the other, and will need an above ground securely fenced in yard for his safety. We are told he is house-trained and does not need a crate as he is quite the gentleman with good manners. He sleeps in the room at night with his foster and has full run of the house when they are not home. He is a very mellow dude, and likes to play, but really likes to watch the other dogs play more. Theodore gets along with other dogs, and if there was another dog in his new home, that would be fine but he really would love all the attention as an only dog too. He's just a chill guy who really dosn't care much for toys, but LOVES his nightly belly rubs!!! Theodore walks ok on leash and is mastering that everyday. He is just looking for a home where he will have a warm and loving family forever.

This sweet girl is a lover and is looking for a dog-savvy, adult only couple or single person to love her back! She will require a home with an above ground physical fenced yard!!!  

GRRAND will work with her adoptive home to help transition her. 

Millie would love an active person who will take her to doggie daycare to get her energy out or good runs/walks. She would do fine as an only dog or with a stable, submissive dog, but no cats. She is also crate-trained. 

Millie has a waited too long for her happy forever, and with just the right person, you can live a happy great life together! Can you be the one she deserves? 
 

Milo is a 5 year old, 95ish lb, male Goldendoodle looking for a home with no small kids. Sadly, the dynamics in the family home have changed with 2 small kids, and Milo is not taking well to the situation. His family has made the difficult decision to re-home Milo and they say: "We truly believe Milo would be so much happier in a home where he isn't constantly getting aggravated by children and is getting more attention than I can give him at home during the day. He really is so lovable."

Milo is house-trained and has full run of the house when his people are away. "He loves playing fetch with balls and other toys along with playing tug a war with toys. He loves attention and to be played with. I think he needs to be in a home with no young children. He needs to be in a home with people who aren't going to leave him for more than several hours at a time. I am a stay at home mom, so he is with us all the time except when we leave for a few hours at a time and that isn't every day. He is a loyal dog and loves to be petted and loved on. He follows me around all day and waits by the door until I come out. He loves being outside and going for walks. He loves strangers who want to pet him. We have him groomed regularly and boarded by people at the Pet Station Country Club and they all love him. He will lay most of the day now unless someone is engaging with him." 

Milo's new family will need to have the time and patience to work with him through his adjustments to his new living arrangements. He is still young, so will need plenty of exercise and direction from his people.

Moose is a beautiful 1+ year old male pure Golden Retriever. He's about 70 lbs, unaltered, and has not had an accident in his run. He appears to like other dogs, but they would need to match his high energy level. Make no mistake, Moose is a big 70 lb puppy with very little training, so he is looking for a family that is committed to giving him the exercise and direction he needs to be a good boy. Moose is still just a puppy, and a tired puppy is a good puppy! He knows sit, but is not good on leash, and we are working on that, and he and his new owner would benefit from training together. This handsome boy is house-trained and crate-trained.

His surrendering owner said they had acquired him about two months before they turned him in to GRRAND, and sadly he showed aggressive behaviours to their autistic son which led them to the difficult decision. They discovered his original elderly owners took Moose from their grandson, who could not manage him, and had disciplined him with a leather belt and tree switches, so this guy is ready for a new start. 

He's only been at the GRRAND kennel for a week, but he is already settling in, and is very loving towards the regular volunteers. He will try to climb on your lap, and he will lay at my feet in the office. He loves to play fetch, and tug! Because he had a rough start to life, he does take a short while to warm to new people, but not long at all. We believe Moose needs a secure above ground fenced yard where he can run and play freely, and an experienced dog owner with no children in his new home. Moose needs a family who is willing to have the patience to help him gain confidence and trust. He is said to have a high prey drive, so a home with cats or other small animals are not going to be good for him.

Murphy is a 3 year old, beautiful AKC registered Golden boy who arrived at GRRAND in early September. He is neutered, house trained, and weighs a hefty 95 lbs, which we are working to reduce by a few pounds!

IMPORTANT CHRISTMAS NOTE FROM MURPHY: "My name is Murphy. I am a beautiful 3-year-old pure Golden Retriever. I'm housebroken, love belly rubs, and walk great on a leash. I am currently with an awesome foster family who loves me. However, they have a lot of travel coming up, so I'm back at the kennel until January 8. This will be my first Christmas away from home. I am desperately looking for a new foster home or — better yet — a forever family. Please make my holiday dreams come true and give me a loving foster or adoptive home."

Murphy's foster family says: "Murphy is an absolute gem of a dog! We have nothing but the best things to say about this loving boy! Murphy is a cuddle bug who loves being glued to you on the couch or in bed. But he is also such a gentleman and respects your space when you need it 🙂 He knows how to sit, lie down, and shake (what a good boy!). Murphy loves belly rubs, long walks around the neighborhood, and he loves looking out at the Ohio River. Murphy is a pro at the leash (no pulling and very easy to redirect when his attention focuses on a squirrel or another dog). He also loves saying hi to every person he sees like they’re his best friend!

Murphy has free run of our home and has never chewed on anything inappropriately (he does occasionally steel one of our socks, but just to tease us – it’s so cute). Murphy is fully house-trained and he behaves very well when left alone (we have a pet camera that just shows him lying down by the door, waiting for our return).
So please, anyone who wants to receive nothing but the deepest love, consider adopting Murphy! He really is just the absolutely BEST dog and we’ll miss him so so so much when he’s no longer our foster. He’s a true delight!!"

GRRAND has been told he "should not go to a home with children, either resident, or visiting (ex. grandkids), and Murphy likes all the attention, so should be the only dog in the house, so he can get all the attention with no issues. He just needs to be put in the right home with someone who understands his needs and can work with him with no other pets and no children."

Other than the home with no pets… our GRRAND volunteer says: "This sweet boy is the real deal. Murphy rides well in the backseat of a car. Murphy is so gentle getting in and out of a car. He loves walks and does well on a leash. He has lost 5 pounds since his previous weigh in. Murphy is cool, calm, and collected. He loves snuggles, watching baseball on tv, to be brushed, and his ducky stuffed toy."

Nova is a 6 year old, 50lb, female Goldendoodle who is being surrendered because "She needs someone that can be with her more than I can. She has a lot of energy and needs a place to run around. Nova needs a quiet adult only household with no kids as she is leary of strangers and does not like a lot of chaos. She needs a secure fenced in yard for her to run and play. She is house-trained and trustworthy in the home when left alone.

Our GRRAND volunteer says: "Nova was out playing with Chief in the field today and she does not like to have her picture taken as she would rather sniff and wander, nose to the ground. She does not seek much attention but will come back to me every once in a while to check in – quick scritch then she's back to sniffing. It is very obvious she would love to have her own yard to sniff around in daily. Nova is not a digger nor does she bark. Nova has beautiful golden highlights in her fur."

(update Oct 2) Our volunteer also says: "She is independent, loving, sweet, calm. I discovered today that she likes to chase a thrown tennis ball but she is not obsessive about it. She likes to sniff and wander but will seek you out for pets and snuggles. Nova has excellent manners. She won't jump up on you and I've never heard her bark."

Nova will need a home with a secure fenced yard so she can romp and play, and a new "bestie" in the home would be a bonus! Nova gets along well with other dogs and will need a family that can be committed to giving her the daily exercise and direction she needs to be a happy and healthy girl! Nova is crate trained but has proven to be trustworthy and not get into anything when home. She can be a bit leary of strangers, but needs the right person who can help her work through that.

Nuggie is a 7 month old, male Golden Retriever looking for a pretty specific type of home, so please read carefully before applying!

This pup is needing an experienced ADULT ONLY household with no visiting young kids or grandkids as he has a history of resource-guarding, and this is not anything to take lightly even with Nuggie being so young. He is doing better now, but Nuggie is still in the working stages and GRRAND is being very careful with where Nuggie is placed. He will NOT be considered for any family with kids, so please understand. 

Nuggie is treat motivated and knows simple commands, and he MUST have a family 100% committed to training with him, and giving him plenty of structure, exercise and direction, as this is what he needs. Nuggie has been placed in a home where he resourced something as simple as a pine cone, and it was not positive. He is with GRRAND and by being where he is, he has not been given an opportunity to practice resource guarding. Practice makes perfect… he is not there, but the progress is positive and in the wrong hands, he would’ve gotten better at resource guarding, but his environment does not allow that.

Today he’s well adjusted, is not resource guarding his food, plays great with a tennis ball and gives it back. He plays well with other dogs, and has been socialized with a variety of different people and is getting worked with everyday. He is a good boy, and the goal is to make sure he is ready for his forever home.

He will need an above ground secure fenced yard to romp and play in in a safe environment. He is very trainable as he likes it and responds well to it and he is also house-trained and crate-trained.

I'm Penny and am very pleased to meet you! I'm a beautiful pure Golden Retriever, 4+ years old. I came to GRRAND in early 2022, so I have been in the kennel for a while.

I can be a bit grouchy if you try and take one of my prize possessions away from me, usually a stick, but my close kennel buddies know to trick me with a treat for my stick! It works out beautifully, and don't tell them, but honestly, I get the better deal . Oh, and they said if anyone wanted to take me home they would teach them the same trick!

I do love it at the kennel! I get love, two meals a day, and have a warm bed of my own in my 6' x 6' cozy kennel run. I even have a glass door to look out of; Tyg and Adam are across the way so we have nice conversations when the kennel team isn't around. I get to go outside with my favorite people at least three times a day. We play in the yard, go for walks, and sometimes go on field trips to the park and Starbucks. I love going to the pool in the summer, but my favorite is office time where I get to be petted and do stimulation games (and earn treats)!

But my kennel guy seems sad these days; He says I'm getting 'institutionalized' at the kennel. I don't mind being in my cozy kennel run 20 hours a day, but he says I deserve better, like a home with people who love me and who will spend time with me. We have a radio at the kennel (Christmas carols playing now), but he says I should be able to watch Hallmark movies and Animal Planet on TV, whatever that is!! I think I'm his favorite, but don't tell Tyg!

So just to make him happy I guess I'm ready to go home with a great person or couple this Christmas. I have been at the kennel for almost 1000 days so going to a loving home would be an amazing Christmas gift.

I realize I'm not 'Buddy The Elf' but the wonderful team at GRRAND love me (and I them) and they are committed to finding the right home for me and giving the family the right tools and education to make my adoption a success.

Penny is an absolutely beautiful 3 year old Golden Retriever who needs a very specific home! Please read all about her needs before applying!

Penny is happy, tail wagging, and if she knows you, extremely friendly! After coming to GRRAND, we learned she had resource guarding tendencies, and she spent time with our excellent trainers and behaviourists to evaluate her needs.

What we have learned is that Penny does resource guard certain items, and she can be sensitive around her head.

Our kennel manager has spent a lot of time with Penny, and they have a close bond. He reports that Penny takes awhile to be comfortable and trust a person, but when she does trust you, she's an awesome dog who is very loyal and loving. We have a small team who handle her daily, and she loves to play and run outside, go for walks, do mental stimulation games (she is very smart!), and hang out in the office with her person.

Penny needs the right home with a dog-savvy family who understands how dogs communicate. She will give a warning (ex. growl) if something is going on she doesn't like. This is Penny’s way of telling us she wants us to stop doing something, which is great!

Her home must have no children or other animals, either in the home or visiting (e.g., grandchildren who come over). We would do a slow introduction period with several visits to the kennel and to her potential home to help build a bond, along with resource guarding training so we are sure the adopter/foster knows Penny's triggers and how to deal with them. And, as a young Golden, Penny will need plenty of high-quality exercise.

 Meet Pike — a Gentle Soul Ready for Her Second Chance 

Pike is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this beautiful girl has made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. She is a 4-year-old, approximately 50-pound Lab/Golden mix with a soft heart and an even softer spirit.

While Pike is still a bit nervous as she continues to learn that the world can be a safe place, she’s come a long way. She happily accepts treats from volunteers and absolutely loves being petted once she feels comfortable. Her sweet nature truly shines through when given patience and kindness.

Pike does great with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident, stable canine companion who can help show her the ropes and demonstrate that love from people is a wonderful thing. Having another dog to lean on will help Pike continue building her confidence.

Because Pike is a flight risk, a secure, above-ground fenced yard is required, and a home without small children would be best for her comfort and safety.

A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. 

It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.

DESPERATELY NEEDING A FOSTER OR FOREVER FAMILY!!! Don't Roger's sweet eyes call to you? Roger's dad is having serious health issues and we are hopeful a family will step up to help Roger AND his family!

Roger is an 9-10 year old boy, 75ish lb Lab mix who is sadly looking for a home where he can spend his senior years!

His owner has health issues which are causing the sad decision to rehome Roger. He needs a home with no kids under the age of 16, as he tends to be a resource guarder when he has something in his mouth and someone tries to get it from him, so dog savvy owners would be best for this handsome boy. His people say  "We really want Roger to go to a good family that can love him and give him the proper care and exercise he truly needs and wants. We had to downsize and now we don't have a fenced yard for him to run around in, so he is full of energy and we cannot get out with him the way he needs and he does not get many walks. He really needs a yard to run in, with space to spread out, be free and play, and we can not provide that for him. On walks, he can bark at the wildlife, and cars and bikes, so we all really miss the fenced yard we used to have for him".

His people also tell GRRAND: "He is a sweet dog and just loves to be around me, loves to get affection and be petted, and follows me from room to room! Roger lets me know when people are at the house because he gets so excited and he barks a bit when they come in, but settles down quickly and melts into the background after about 5 minutes. He is very well house trained and has never had an accident in the house, and he will bark and let me know when he needs to go out or when he needs/wants something". 

He used to have a doggie companion who passed away and he is said to miss his friend and is lonely.

Hi! I'm Ross. There's a lot of debate as to my DNA, but my kennel guy thinks I'm a Golden/Duck Toller/Collie mix! But I don't care – I'm adorable whatever I am – just look at my picture!!! I'm six-years-old and a GRRAND long-timer – 4 years!! But I'm happy, love to walk, play on our agility equipment, and entertain my kennel people with my zoomies! I'm now working with a trainer. I'm teaching him how to pet me all over without me getting agitated – he's doing well and says I can go home very soon! My kennel people love me and treat me so well that I'll hate to leave them, but 4 years in a kennel is a long time, and I'm really hoping someone will find it in their heart to take me home so I can snuggle and watch TV! Ross is a 6 year old, 50ish lb smart boy who loves to do zoomies in the yard and go for walks. He's very smart and can be trained quickly, though he does have a stubborn streak.

**** Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in one of these puppies and have children, you should check out GRRAND policies page before you read further… In a nutshell, GRRAND policies stipulate a few important things that may stop you from applying

A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old

B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard… so this means no apartments or condos

Apartments and condos can also be tricky for adult only households, as puppies can be whiny and loud, and may make too much noise for the neighbors as well

They will be looking for homes with fenced in yards and families with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so they can grow up to be good dogs! Exercise and direction are a must for these little ones as a tired puppy is a good puppy!! They have boundless amounts of playful energy and need a constant outlet for it!

Ryder is a 6.5 year old male Golden Retriever weighing about 70ish lbs looking for his forever family at no fault of his own. We are told "Our dog is very loved. He is apart of our family and this is not an easy decision, but is what is best for Ryder. I have recently come into a new career and work long hours and have gone through a relationship separation so I no longer have the support to not only give him the care/attention he needs, but also the financial support needed. We believe he has some sort of a food allergy as he can have skin breakouts/flare-ups. He is the sweetest, happiest dog I have ever had, but his itching seems miserable. He gets hot spots (that I thoroughly care for by cleaning and using medicated sprays/ointments and medicated shampoos) and gets itchy paws. I believe that if his allergies were sorted out, he would have zero issues for most families. I have three young children that he loves to snuggle. He is a happy goofy well mannered dog. Knows his sit, stay, place, and heel. Loves doing treat training. During storms he just likes to be held or pet. Will start panting but doesn’t chew or urinate or anything like that. Just gets a bit close and snuggly."

Ryder is house-trained and has full roam of the house when left alone and is truly a great dog. His family is making this hard decision as it is what they feel is best for Ryder. His new famiky will need to be committed to giving him the exercise and direction he needs and have the time to help him through his new home adjustments. Solara and Aurora are 1 year old, female Great Pyrenees littermates who were surrendered to GRRAND by their owners who could not care for them. They came from horribly sad conditions in very rural KY where they had been abandoned along with some chickens and goats. They were filthy, starving, very very thin, and full of matts. But our awesome grooming team trimmed them, bathed them, and now they are showing just how beautiful they are!

GRRAND kennel staff says: "Even though they've had a rough start to life, they are so sweet, gentle, and generally adorable! They seem to like other dogs, and are very calm. Solara (Solli) and Aurora (Auri) are just the sweetest pups! Now they've settled at the kennel their true personality is coming; they love attention and are very playful. They are very gentle when taking treats from your hand. Auri loves to play with other dogs; She loves wrestling with Winston, who has about 50 lbs on her! Soli is a little more laid back but still gets along with other kennel dogs. Their coat looks so much better, and they are putting weight on. They have not messed in their kennel run. They are about a year old, and just the cutest big white fluffy pups!"

They came to GRRAND flea and tick infested, malnourished, and massive matts all over their beautiful white fur coat. Despite being abandoned these are two adorable, sweet, calm dogs. They have been groomed, getting regular food, warm shelter, and they get a lot of well deserved love at the kennel.

Solara is a little less playful than Aurora and prefers to spend time with her human, but she's great with other dogs and will play when the mood takes her. Aurora loves pets too, but loves playing with other dogs. 

They are gentle, fun, and loving. They take treats gently from your hand and love to be petted. They have not messed in their run, so we are hoping they are housebroken, or at least, almost! 

We do think these girls can be split up, however, they love each other and will be equally happy getting fostered or adopted together. 

They will be looking for a family that will have the time and patience to work with them, as they have never known the good life a dog should know… living in a warm and loving house, having a warm bed to sleep on, a family who loves them and are devoted to their care and well being. These girls are very deserving and are waiting for you! They will be needing a home with a secure fenced yard, as Great Pyrenees like to hang outside and roam and patrol and they do this best in a secure environment. There are lots of similarities between Goldens and Great Pyrs, and it may be good to do some research if you are interested in meeting these girls.

Sugar-Cane is a 2ish year old, male Great Pyrenees/Labrador Retriever mix around 75-80 lbs, who was found as a stray by a good samariatian. They brought him in to keep him from getting hit by a car as he had been hanging out for a while around a busy area and needed shelter. They looked on all internet sites, called shelters, looked for lost dog signs etc, and noone claimed him. His rescuer is wheelchair bound and cannot take care of the dog because he is too strong for her, and he had escaped her fenced yard and crossed the busy street a couple times so she contacted GRRAND. Our GRRAND volunteer says: "This dog is a love bug. Sugar Cane loves snuggles, hugs, and activity. He is tall, strong, athletic and is at a healthy weight. He walked well on leash and is not a puller."

Sugar-Cane is super sweet and friendly, but definitely has puppy behaviors as he has had no training, so he is going to need a family that has the time and patience to give him all of the exercise and direction he can take right now. He will need obedience training as he is a big boy and does not know his own strength. He is house-trained and is said to have lived with other dogs and cats but GRRAND has not cat tested him, and he was only there for a short time. In his rescuers home, they did not crate him and he would get into things when bored, so keeping this boy busy and tired, will keep him out of trouble.

Toretto is a 4 year old, male Golden Retriever about 65ish lbs, sadly being surrendered as his family is in a place where they can't give him the time, exercise and direction he really needs and deserves. 

He is crate-trained (sleeps in it at night and when left alone) and house-trained and "He does love to 'dance' as we call it. He wants to jump on his hind legs to dance and give hugs." Toretto is very friendly and still acts like a puppy. He has lots of energy and his family just does not have the time to give him the energy outlet he needs. He minds her commands but he does jump on people – behavior she said she hasn’t been able to stop. He currently lives with 2 kids… 6 and 10 years old who have been with Torrento since he was 2 months old, so he has been around kids his whole life. He gets along well with other dogs and is said to have visited a home with a cat, and he ignored the cat. (GRRAND has not cat tested him)

He has tried to escape the yard, but it is believed it was out of boredom. His new family will need to have the time to give him the energy and exercise outlet he needs to keep him happy and out of trouble. This boy is a typical young and very lovable Golden looking to get lots of affection, be social and have fun with his family. He is smart and learns quickly so he will adapt to a new home with some training and help with adjustments. Another dog to play with or someone who is willing to walk him and/or is willing to play with him in the yard is what he needs. (Some rough and tumble young boys to roll around with would be good for him too LOL)

Tucker is being re-homed as he needs a home with no kids under the age of 16 as he is not good with the chaos that young ones bring. He also needs to be the only dog in the home, as he does exhibit some resource guarding with his person when another dog is in the home as he wants all of the attention from his people. "Meet Tucker! He is a male, miniature Golden Doodle, weighing around 35 pounds. He is almost 5 years old, born in September 2020. He is a handsome boy who has a lot of energy when it’s time to play. He is completely housebroken, does not chew or bother things inside or outside. He loves attention, and will follow commands to “sit”, “get in”, “out”. He has not had formal training, but is very well mannered inside and outside of the home. He is around our neighbors dogs and enjoys playing with them, also does good with other dogs at the daycare where he gets boarded a couple times a year, but can not live in the home with another dog. He enjoys going to the groomer and currently has his short summer cut. We are sad that we need to rehome Tucker. He can not be trusted around young children who are loud and chaotic and will need a home with kids over 16. The perfect home for Tucker would be somewhere with no kids, he doesn’t get much attention now because we can’t have him around kids other than our own. He would make a great companion dog for an adult household where he is the only dog. He really is the sweetest boy looking for a nice, calm home, with an adult to love him and no other dogs either." Tucker is a smaller dog, and he unfortunately does not like to be picked up, so if you are looking for a dog to pick up and walk around with, he is not your boy.

We are happy to report that Tucker is in a foster home and they say: "I wanted to share an update on Tucker. He is such a sweet boy,  a total velcro pup who just wants to be close to his people and soak up all the love for himself. He’s been doing great with potty breaks and lets me know when he needs to go out. He also walks really well on a leash. He does like to get into trash cans and the toilet, I think because he was kept in the bathroom a lot, so you have to be mindful of keeping the bathroom doors closed. Tucker is an energetic sweetie. He loves to play with other dogs and loves to have a yard to run around in. Tucker has good leash manners. Talk about a cutie!"

Tucker would definitely do best in a home without kids and no other dogs, but he truly loves people and just wants affection. 

He’s a great boy, loving, loyal, and cute as can be."

Tucker is house-trained, sleeps on his blanket at night but not crate-trained.

Meet Tyg (Tygrys)

Poor Tyg will have been at the kennel for 2 years this June. He's a favorite with regular kennel volunteers. Once he gets to know you he's a big 100 lbs loving teddy bear. 

Most people don't come to a Golden Retriever rescue looking for an Anatolian Shepherd mix, which is why Tyg is still with us. Anatolians are very protective of their flock and family. If you know anyone with Anatloian Shepherd experience looking for a fantastic dog, please get in touch with GRRAND. . 

Sadly, Tyg has been at the GRRAND kennel for over a year. The kennel volunteers recently had a pool party to celebrate Tyg's one-year anniversary at the kennel – he got to swim, eat doggie cake, and of course, get dressed up!

Tyg is a 5-year-old Anatolian Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix who came to GRRAND in 2019 as a 3-month-old puppy. He was adopted by a couple who sadly had to return him in June 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances. He was so sad and would sit by the fence looking for his people to return. He is now settled at the kennel and is certainly a volunteer favorite! Once he decides you are okay, you will be his best bud – but it takes him a while to warm up to new people.

He will try and squeeze his 100+ lb body on a chair with you for hugs and kisses. The volunteers love to dress him up and he never complains; the perfect model! He loves the pool and gets to go for a swim every day in the summer. He is very well trained on the leash and loves to go for walks, but he does have a tendency to lunge at large trucks and vans so he needs a strong hand to keep him under control.

Tyg is a special boy. He is extremely sweet, loyal and protective of his people. We believe it's best for Tyg to go to a home with an experienced dog owner, no other pets and no children, ideally with a large fenced yard he can patrol, and few outside visitors. Please open your heart and home for this wonderful boy. He will repay you with an abundance of love and loyalty.

Vance is a Golden/Pyrenees mix and he is just a beautiful boy who desperately needs a dog-savvy and experienced foster home!!

He will curl up on your lap and jump on your bed if you let him😊. He loves 'his people', which right now is the kennel staff and volunteers.   

You won't have to worry about squirrels or chipmunks in your yard  as he'll chase them off for sure! 

He definitely needs a dog experienced, adult household, with no kids under 18, and an above ground fenced yard (no apartments or condo type home). Vance is not a real social dog as he likes to be at home with his people!

Can anyone take this sweet boy out of the kennel? Any family who is interested in Vance, and has been approved to meet him, MUST still be approved by his trainer.

He likes smaller dogs but he is not wild about larger dogs and no cats. This sweet boy likes walks around the park and walks fine on leash. While he was out and about at the kennel, he wanted lots of loving in the office!!! And… Vance Loves fetching toys!
We are still learning about this cutie, but if you would like to meet him and get him out of the kennel, please contact GRRAND ASAP!

Winnie is a 2 year old, 60ish lb, female Labradoodle. This sweet girl is looking for a home where she is the only dog and no kids under 16 years of age. We are told by her people that "She just wants to lay on the couch with you, she learns fast and listens well. She loves toys, yak cheese chews, and running. She is very loving and sweet, and we want the best home for her."

She is house-trained, leash-trained and crate-trained (sleeps in it at night and when family is not home) and she is said to have lived with a cat, but GRRAND has not cat tested her. Her people say "She's fine around my cats and mostly leaves them alone."

Our GRRAND volunteer says "she is very sweet, a little timid, likes to run, likes to sniff, enjoys being petted. She looks to be athletic, not over or under weight, and has a beautifully groomed coat."

Winston is a 3 year old, male Great Pyrenees weighing about 100lbs. This boy is looking for a home where he can roam and patrol in a secure above ground fenced yard as he has proven to NOT stay within invisible fence boundaries… he ignores them, and that is not good for anyone. We are told: " Winston will not stay in the yard and I will not keep him on a lead any longer, he has been on a lead for 2 years after not staying in the invisible fence. He deserves an above ground fenced yard with other dogs and space to move! He is the best dog and deserves better." Winston Dooley is a gentle giant… so sweet and gentle, and calm yet curious. 

He is said to have lived with other dogs and cats (GRRAND has not cat tested him) and his house-trained but not crate-trained, and is trusted to have full run of the house. He walks well on leash too.
